General Motors plans to launch an all-new Chevrolet TrailBlazer, its mid-sized SUV, in Thailand in early 2012. It will also be launched in other countries in Southeast Asia, in the Middle East and in South America. While the Chevrolet TrailBlazer will be exposed overseas, it may not be given a similar opportunity in the U.S. as GM officials haven’t made any mention of plans to offer it in the country. The SUV model was offered in the U.S. for a decade but it was phased out in 2009. The all-new TrailBlazer is set to have its unveiling on Nov. 10-14 at the Dubai International Motor Show. After revealing the fact that it will bring the Spark EV in the United States, Chevrolet also announced today that the all-new 2013 TrailBlazer midsize SUV will be introduced in global markets, beginning in Thailand, in early 2012. As expected, the car will be built on the new global midsize platform developed by GM do Brasil. Fisker will produce a crossover SUV to join its Karma sports saloon, a source told AutoExpress. At the Frankfurt Motor Show last September, Fisker had launched the Surf shooting brake estate. The source said that the crossover would be built on a new platform that will make its debut on the upcoming small saloon that is known as Project Nina. The size of this four-door is similar to a BMW 5 Series but it has nearly the same price as a top-end 3 Series, which is priced at about £40,000. It’s not a secret anymore that Volkswagen Group is preparing a Bentley SUV but what we didn’t know is that the firm wants the car to become the world’s most luxurious 4x4 powered by a V12 engine. Currently, the only rival to the new Bentley SUV will be the Eterniti Hemera which is based on the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and powered by a V8 engine. “We will be first to use a 12-cylinder petrol engine in a luxury SUV. I like this idea; it makes clear whose car is the boss,” said Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer. According to Autocar, the new Bentley SUV will be powered by a next-generation version of today’s W12 engine used by the Continental GT and GTC models. As you may know already, the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado was unveiled last week in Thailand but the real surprise came today after General Motors confirmed that the all-new Colorado midsize pickup will be built and sold in the United States. Still, we have no details regarding the vehicle, timing, price as well as the production location but all these will be announced later this year. For those who don’t know, the Colorado lineup will include 2WD and 4WD regular, extended-cab and crew cab variants in Thailand. Moreover, the vehicle will carry gasoline and diesel engines, including the new 2.5L and 2.8L turbo diesel powerplants. In order to take on cars such as the Audi RSQ5 or the Bmw X1 xDrive28i, Land Rover is preparing a hot version of the Range Rover Evoque. According to Autocar, the new car will be powered by a high-pressure turbo version of the Ford-derived 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit found already on the Evoque. David Mitchell, the director of the Evoque program said that he drove the engine in a prototype vehicle and the chassis can take all the power to the road.  More...

The Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger are the first two models by Chrysler Group LLC to get the company’s new ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. The transmission helps both models achieve an EPA-rated 31 mpg on the highway when mater to the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6. Combining General Motors’ eAssist (a new light electrification system) with a very fuel efficient four-cylinder engine enabled the automaker to set a new fuel economy record for two sedan segments. This simple but highly advanced tech system resulted to extensive fuel economy improvements with minimal added costs. Several GMI sources said that GM has lined up two of its most successful crossovers to have electric versions. It was also revealed that GM will use the eAssist on the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers.
